Excerpt from my book “Disrupt-Her”

“Please go and the best path for the group to cross the forest,” the leader instructed the scout.

The scout took the order from the leader and proceeded calmly and excitedly.

By definition, a scout is “a soldier or person sent out ahead of a main force to explore, examine or gather information about a place, or to do recon.”

A scout is one who pushes the boundaries of the unknown, runs into new territory first with excitement and curiosity to uncover new things, and is often first to encounter major push- back from whatever crosses her path (for example, a fallen log that blocks the road, or a ravine that prevents crossing, or hungry bears looking for a human meal). The scout examines the current situation, decides where to go, and strategizes how to get the job done.

Most importantly the scout is not afraid to “fail,” and actually doesn’t understand the word “failure”—the words the scout chooses are “learning” and “growing” and “having revelations.”

For example, if the scout who is doing recon for a larger group goes ahead on her own and runs into a ravine she can’t cross, does the scout turn back and call herself a “failure” and have an “it’s over” mentality, or does she simply turn around and look for a new path?

The scout doesn’t ever think of any obstacles or long journeys with dead ends as “failures” or a waste of time. The scout doesn’t judge herself for choosing one path over another. She simply learned where not to go next time and saw some cool things on her way to the dead end. She doesn’t take the journey so seriously, even if much seems to be at stake.

To be a Disrupt-Her requires the ability to see every unknown path ahead as an amazing adventure and a constant stream of revelations. With this mindset, actions can be taken and only through real tangible fearless action, can abundance follow.
