From Idea to Impact: My Biggest Takeaways from Creating Category Disrupting Products

May 15, 2024

I often get asked: “What was your biggest takeaway from inventing a product?”

I’m excited to share my hard-earned wisdom from my journey with WILD, THINX, and TUSHY.

Anyone Can Invent a Product

ANYONE can actually do it. The first and most important lesson I learned is that inventing a product is not an exclusive club for the “experienced” or the “qualified.” It’s an open field for the passionate, the curious, and the determined. If a person with zero prior experience in each of my ventures (me) can do it, so can you.

It’s Not Rocket Science

Inventing a product might sound intimidating, but it’s not rocket science. The key is to break down the process into manageable steps, stay focused, and keep learning. You don’t need a PhD to make a difference; you just need a problem to solve and the drive to solve it.

Be Relentless

The path of invention is not a straight line; it’s a rollercoaster. There will be highs and lows, successes and failures. The secret to navigating this journey is relentlessness. Never lose sight of your goal, and don’t let setbacks deter you. Persistence is the fuel that will keep you going when the going gets tough.

Have a Strong ‘Why’

Perhaps the most crucial takeaway is the importance of having a strong ‘why.’ Your ‘why’ is your purpose, your north star. It’s what makes you care about your product for the long haul. For me, it was about addressing issues I deeply cared about: healthy food (WILD), women’s issues and eliminating shame (THINX), and saving 15 million trees every year (TUSHY).

My Personal Mission: Elevating People and the Planet

At the core of my entrepreneurial spirit is my personal mission to elevate people and the planet. Every product I’ve invented aligns with this mission, and it’s what keeps me motivated and inspired. Your mission might be different, but it’s essential to have one that resonates with you and guides your journey.

So, to all the aspiring inventors out there, I say: go forth and create! The world is waiting for your brilliance.
