Hiro and the meaning of life

June 25, 2021

This morning I asked Hiro “What is the meaning of life?” Children really are the conduits to universal truth so I was curious to see what he would say. He said “The period is the food for the baby.” Every month when I’m on my period, I let my son know. He wants to see what it looks like so I show him (on a piece of bamboo/recycled toilet paper of course :-)) and explain to him the magic of this blood and how it’s the nutrients / food for the baby when inside the mama’s belly to help them grow. He finds it interesting and is not conditioned to think that it’s weird or something to be kept quiet or something to be “grossed out by” but instead, it’s the meaning of life because it creates life! I am so touched that he remembers. Turns out we remember everything, it’s all stored somewhere inside of us and the more space we are given to explore it all, the less any of it feels weird anymore, and the more we get to process them, not from a place of shame, guilt or fear but from a place of courage, curiosity and with an open heart. Child = teacher.
